Steve Winwood
Junction Seven
Release Date: 1997 06 03
Label: Virgin
Rating:

It took Steve Winwood nearly seven years to follow up Refugees of the Heart with Junction Seven. In between those two albums, he briefly reunited Traffic, but judging from the sound of Junction Seven, that reunion had little effect on his music. The record sounds nearly identical to Refugees of the Heart, from its slick sonics to its high-class, polished, yuppie pop-R&B. Winwood still sings with passion, and he can play well, but he has no new ideas on Junction Seven, and he and co-producer Narada Michael Walden have trouble making these retreads sound exciting. It's a sad washout from an artist poised for a triumphant comeback. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
